The phrase was spoken by a confused foreign minister during a scheduled Signal call with “Marco Rubio,” the U.S. Secretary of State. What followed was an awkward silence because the person on the other end didn’t exist.  

There was no live video. No real-time audio response. Just the cold realization: they’d been had.

Critically, this wasn’t a “hack” in the traditional sense. No encryption was broken. No device was compromised. The attacker simply mimicked Rubio so well that people believed him because the system offered no way to disprove it
